Project Context

The RCN Foundation, in partnership with the University of Salford, has funded and appointed the inaugural RCN Foundation Chair in Adult Social Care Nursing. This appointment marks a significant step towards shaping the future of teaching, research, and professional practice in Adult Social Care, both in the UK and internationally.

Over a five-year period, Salford will lead the development of research collaborations with academic institutions and key stakeholders to promote nurse-led research, with a particular focus on nursing in Adult Social Care. The aim is to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice, ultimately improving care delivery while fostering the development of the next generation(s) of nurses in this field. This project is structured around three core themes:

RCN Foundation
  • Education – Influencing and leading national initiatives on the educational preparation of nurses in Adult Social Care.
  • Professional Practice – Examine and support the enhancement of professional practice within the sector.

“The University of Salford has a strong history in the education and development of nurses who go on to provide care to people across a range of care environments. We are at a pivotal point for Adult Social Care and it is so important that we provide opportunity for our student nurses to learn in social care environments and for nurses working in Adult Social Care to be supported to continue to develop in their roles. Hearing the voice of nurses working in Adult Social Care is vital to ensure that the importance and value of their work is highlighted and promoted; enhancing the care that they provide to residents and patients. We are absolutely delighted to work in partnership with the RCN Foundation to host the RCN Chair in Adult Social Care Nursing here at University of Salford and excited for the work that Professor Pryor will move forward in this role.”
